This is a major upgrade on the first edition. I use SBL style occasionally as a copyeditor, and I wasn't aware there was a second edition until I encountered a job that required it. So I ordered the book and liked it--except for the price. But this has much more detail than the first edition, with nice cross-refs to the Chicago Manual of Style, and I'm hoping it will be a valuable reference tool for the next several years.

Good advice for the most part, but some of the suggestions on footnote/endnote and bibliographical entries are not user friendly to the educated, interested but non-specialist reader.

The book arrived as promised. The book cover did not appear to be new, but there were no wear inside the book.

As a copy editor who sometimes runs across questions in the field, I've found it a great resource. When I first received it (first edition), I thought there would be couple portions I could use. When I started checking it, those "couple" turned to "many." The book has moved to my primary, go-to, within-easy-reach shelf.

Mitarbeiter von Lutz Tietze in Gottingen haben sie jetzt, anlasslich seines 60. Geburtstages, Wirklichkeit werden lassen. Interviewt wurden 30 Chemiker und 2 (!) Chemikerinnen, herausgekommen ist eine uberaus interessante "mixtura mirabilis".
Wird das Buch der Leitidee "What's cooking in chemistry?" gerecht? Es sind vertreten 22 "Meisterkoche" aus den USA, 19 aus Deutschland, 6 aus Italien, der Rest der Welt aber nur mit 8 maitres de cuisine. Es drangt sich der Verdacht auf, dass die Summe der Leistungen im Labor und in der Kuche stimmen musste. So kann man K. C. Nicolaou nachsehen, wenn der Bezwinger des Vanconmycins oder des Brevetoxins als wissenschaftliche Mount Everests "fish and chips" serviert; Gro?e im Labor und Bescheidenheit auf dem Teller sind eben nicht inkompatible! ...Trotz der etwas unausgewogenen Konzentration auf die USA, Deutschland und Italien tut sich auch bei "What's cooking" eine uberraschende Vielfalt auf. Pasta in vielen Variationen, Kanguru, Wildente, Wildschwein und eine "Schalentierkatastrophe" (Austern, Muscheln und Shrimps) liegen auf den Tellern. Auch Folklore kommt aus den Topfen: Kaiserschmarrn (Emperor Nonsens), Powidldatschkerl, Labskaus, Frankfurter Grune So?e ("Gris So?"), Tofu Tempura, Ahi Tuna Sashimi Napoleon oder Arzgebirge'sche Schuster Klie?. Interessant ist auch, wer wen zu Tisch bittet! Nicht wenige kochen fur Mitarbeiter, einige, um ihre Angebetete zu beeindrucken, ein Prasident kocht fur seine Vizeprasidenten und den Kanzler der Universitat. D. A. Evans prasentiert mit seiner "Lonely Soup" einen "dish for bachelors" und bezeichnet sich als "survival cook". Sind sie ohne die Ehefrauen doch verloren? Bei manchen der "maitres de cuisine" scheint in ihren abschlie?enden Kommentaren ein Hauch von Brillat-Savarin (1755-1826) "Psychologie des Geschmacks" durch, auch wenn kein Franzose an dem bunten Tafelreigen beteiligt ist. Besonders phantasievolle Kuchenmeister haben zu Ehren des Jubilars Tietze Domino-Gerichte kreiert (Domino Cake, Domino Chicken Curry)...ist naturlich weder ein Lehrbuch fur Chemie noch fur die Kuche - will es auch nicht sein. Aber es ist eine charmante, sehr personliche Vorstellung der "favored recipes" - die meist gute Hausmannskost beschreiben - vor dem Hintergund des wissenschaftlichen Werks der Kollegen. Es sollte Freude machen, dieses sehr sorgfalig redigierte und mit einem Index versehene Werk Freunden und Kollegen der Scientific Community zu schenken und damit Freude zu bereiten. Eigentlich sollte es auch im eigenen Bucherschrank stehen , denn einem Berufstand, der im Unterbewusstsein immer noch mit viel Gift und Umweltschaden identifiziert wird, konnte dieses liebenswurdige Buch zu einer freundlicheren Akzeptanz verhelfen."

I have been listening to Melanie and Gin's podcast since I started Intermittent Fasting in October. I have been waiting for the book to be released because I also follow a Paleo lifestyle. Having read 6 other IF books, I wasn't expecting to learn much from What, When, Wine, but I have happily discovered that I still have much to learn! Melanie does a great job of breaking down the science of IF and incorporating the science of Paleo style eating. The recipes are wonderful, and I can't wait to try some more of them. The only problem is that with only one meal a day, it will take me a long time to try them all. What, When, Wine is written to be read from cover to cover AND is organized as a reference book. I plan to buy a sharing copy because I won't be letting this one out of my sight. Just an FYI, if you are new to IF or an IF veteran, this book fits the bill for both. Everything you need to know all between two covers. I love, love, love it!

I love her style of writing and can relate to her on so many levels.Her first book “The What When Wine Diet” was about what to eat, when to eat it and added wine!!!! Ready to pick Melanie’s brain! I’mAmazed at her knowledge and love her personality!!So happy she updated her book. Her podcast and book have been a huge part of my journey!

Melanie’s book is a game changer for anyone looking to improve their health and well-being. I have read so many books by all of the paleo and keto gurus and this one is by far my favourite. While reading her book, I felt like I was listening to a friend. She has a very personable, very funny and relatable writing style. She says in her intro to avoid being tempted to read just bits and pieces of it, as there is a ton of amazing info on every page. She brings the science of fasting and paleo to a level that isn’t condescending nor is it over your head. Her section on dealing with the social aspects of paleo IF is a must read for everyone. She also offers many different IF options with the pros and cons to help you choose what may work best for you. Melanie’s book is #allthethings and I encourage anyone interested in health, longevity, anti-aging and healthy body composition to read it ASAP over a glass of wine (it it’s that time).

Really loved reading this book! It took me 2 days to read it. Melanie writes so well and so thoughtfully that I felt like I was talking with a close friend through the entire book. I haven't adopted the Paleo lifestyle (yet!) but I have with Intermittent Fasting the past 5 months and this was a great read about it. I learned so many new things that I hadn't before. I am excited to try all of her delicious recipes in the back of the book and maybe incorporate a more Paleo way of eating into my life with her encouragement and research. Way to go Melanie! I really enjoyed your book and looking forward to more books from you in the future.

I had been hearing about Intermittent Fasting for years but like many, was hesitant to listen any further. As a food lover and a yo-yo dieter, I couldn't absorb one more cockamamie diet telling me what I can and can't eat and how I have to deprive myself of all the things I love. I'm already a relatively healthy eater (organic and whole foods) so I adopted this way of life very easily. This book teaches you how to fast and the healthiest food to eat to optimize weight loss and health. The best part, I still eat the foods I love I just skip breakfast and eat between 12 pm and 5pm. It's so flexible so you can move your window around too. There are countless testimonials and support groups where people share their success stories. Weight loss is truly a side effect to this way of life and many have lost over 100lbs! However the thing that truly moves me is how so many have reversed chronic and debilitating diseases like hypertension and diabetes type 2. I am hooked and absolutely love this book. Read it! It will change how you think about food and eating and could be the way for you to find health and happiness! What do you have to lose??

NANCY MACLEAN Ph.D. University of Wisconsin, 1989 is professor of history and African American studies at Northwestern University. Her first book, Behind the Mask of Chivalry: The Making of the Second Ku Klux Klan 1994, was named a "noteworthy" book of the year by the New York Times Book Review, and received the Rawley Prize from the Organization of American Historians, the Owsley Prize from the Southern Historical Association, and the Rosenhaupt Award from the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. About the Author

Renee DiResta is Vice President of Business Development at Haven, a marketplace for ocean freight shipping, and a cofounder of the IoT Syndicate on AngelList. She was previously a Principal at O’Reilly AlphaTech Ventures (OATV), where she spent four years as a VC investing in seed-stage technology startups. But there's still a wide gulf between building something once and achieving success. This is a book from three people with deep experience on how to span that gulf: How to build the right product, how to go from a prototype to manufacturing, how to find your customers, how to price, and generally how to go from a great idea to a successful business.Highly recommended.

Loved the section about accelerators, though some of them have already ceased to exist or have rebranded! Still, it teaches you what to look for in accelerators, not just their names. Same goes for the whole book, teaches you how to think as a hardware entrepreneur. Refreshing to get custom-tailored advice when most startup books only discuss SaaS

This is a great book that combines data and a lot of practical experience. The authors have advised and analyzed a ton of successful (and unsuccessful) startups and they've distilled it into a ton of institutional knowledge. If you're doing (or even considering doing) a hardware startup, you'd be nuts not to take some hours out to get the benefit of their fast amount of research and experience, there are not more efficient ways to get a bit up the learning curve than by reading this book.

Packed with relevant information for hardware entrepreneurs, info that can be difficult to find elsewhere. Of the many books I've read (fully or partly), this would be the first I recommend to anyone building a hardware startup.

Lots of useful info. I especially like that they include a few concrete examples in each category they discuss - e.g., editors, lawyers, etc.

Our company pivoted from software to hardware and this book was a good high level introduction. Every single topic should be a book in it of itself, so this is just an intro.
