This was a wonderful story - continuing Hanna & Esther's lives. A number of years are covered because the author will move on to several years later.Again each chapter begins with various pieces of history which is very interesting & is also good in telling you the period in which, this story is written.-- I have read amish books for several years and they were what got me to thinking of cooking from 'scratch' like I used to do growing up -- But the one thing I disliked was that they referenced their Ordnung (their rules created by a group of men) because they were taught that they must live that way to go to Heaven. - And this is just a part of why so many Amish are leaving and are coming to know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. ---
This was a wonderful book I truly enjoyed the storyline and the tidbits of information about the changes taken place in the era of the story, updating this added to understanding the breaking away of the Amish customs and the story was was awesome and had a wonderful finish, not to be missed
I love the concept of this story, with the main character and her twin being the children of the Indian who kidnapped their mother. Seeing how Esther struggles with her identity and grows through those struggles makes reading the book a rich experience.However, I do have one big problem. As I've read "Forbidden Heritage," I've also noticed several spelling errors and comma errors. This has the effect of pulling me out of the story, distracting me. And that's not good.Misty Griffin has written a wonderful story and it shouldn't be diluted, if that's a good word, by the errors in the prose.
It is aware thing to find a book like this that is every bit as good as book one in the series . It is also a rare thing for me to get five stars to a book where I have found some errors . But this story and the history lesson that goes along with it is just too important and conveys so well what it must feel like to be shunned . I highly recommend this book but I do feel you should read book one in the series first. It's not that this book could not stand alone but you will find that reading book One will provide character richness that will make this book even better.
This was the 3rd book in this series. I really have to commend the author for all of the research that goes into her books! Once again, she has given us a history of Amish life that been developed into a fictional account of how things might have come about. My only concern, again, is for the sometimes wrong punctuation. Otherwise, read this book after reading the first two!
I have read all three of her books and will continue to do so.... I had a hard time putting them down. Though the topics are sad, I love stories that take huge courage. Thank you.
Being the result of her mother being kidnapped by indiana, Esther has a difficult childhood having bronze skin. She realizes the Amish men are reluctant to marry her because of her Indian blood. She decides to be a teacher. When she leaves the Amish to teach at the Indian school her life changes.
I don't understand why people follow man made rules when it comes to where they will spend eternity. This is almost two books in one. There is the historical part about what is happening in the world and the Amish way of life. Then, there is the story of a family torn apart by the rules made by men. It is an extremely well written book that is hard to put down.
